a prayer from Psalm 22

My God, My God, why have you abandoned me?

Why are you so far away?

By day my calls for help fall on deaf ears.

By night my cries bring no relief.

Yet you are holy, lifted up on the praises of your people.

You were there for them. You rescued them.

Countless can testify of your help…

Why not me?

Oh God, My God, do not stay far away.

You who care for the needy, the poor and powerless, 

do not delay.
