Sunday Recap - September 29, 2024

Here's a recap of Sunday's liturgy with scriptures, songs and other notable elements:
Call to Worship: Psalm 19:1-6, 14 NLT
The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
    The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
    night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
    their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
    and their words to all the world.
God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding.
    It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.
The sun rises at one end of the heavens
    and follows its course to the other end.
    Nothing can hide from its heat.

May the words of my mouth
    and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing to you,
    O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Community Life - Jay Ewing (Pastor of Spiritual Formation)
• Sept. 30 is the National Day of Truth & Reconciliation.  Our staff will be at the Honouring Our Children Run, but there are other opportunities around our city and available online.  Check out our Truth & Reconciliation Resources post to learn more about ways to participate and a number of resources to aid in learning more and participating in this good and neccesary work
• We are so committed to being a church of reconciliation that we've created a pastoral role - Pastor of Missional Engagement - to help us build bridges and move across them with Christ's love and shalom for our city, our region and the world.  And so we are so excited to welcome Samuel Sarpiya - this is his first Sunday and we're so grateful he's here!
• Our mission moves at the speed of your generosity. Thank you for your giving. To learn more about supporting our community, our vision and mission, and investing in God's kingdom visit redwoodpark.ca/give

Call to Listen
Sermon - Milissa Ewing
Text: 2 Cor. 5:17-19; John 13:34-35; Mark 10:35-38, 42-45
Big Idea: If our vision is to see our city become one of the best places to live in Canada for all people, this includes Indigenous people. We have to engage in this important work in order to see our vision come to pass.
Songs of Response
 Echoes (Shawn Baran)
[Since this is an original song, we don't have a recording of it... sorry!]

Benediction
"May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 15:5-6)
