What is Advent?
Advent is the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas that we mark with the themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. It has a long, rich history and offers a unique invitation as we anticipate the coming of Jesus, the Light of the World, at Christmas.
Learn more about Advent
Christmas is one of the most loved and celebrated holidays in our calendar; observed in myriad ways by folks of myriad religious and non-religious affiliations. For Christians around the world, the Christmas season is the celebration of Jesus' birth in the little town of Bethlehem some 2000 years ago. But before we get to Christmas, we journey through the season of Advent.
The word "advent" comes from the Latin word "adventus" which means "arrival" or "coming". For centuries (and by centuries, we're talking, like, before 480 C.E.), followers of Jesus have observed the 4-weeks leading to the celebration of Jesus' birth at Christmas as a time of eager anticipation and longing for his arrival - his arrival in the past, his arrival in the future, and his arrival in this present moment.
To prepare for Jesus' arrival, we reflect of the themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love, lighting a candle for each on the Sundays leading up to Christmas to depict the growing expectation we have for the coming of Christ - the Light of the World (John 8:12) - in our lives.
We invite you to join us in this beautiful season of waiting, and that you'll join us for one of our three Christmas Eve services on December 24th to celebrate Jesus' arrival in our lives and world.

Advent Bible Reading Plan
What does God desire to invite us into in this season of Advent? A great way to begin exploring that question is to read the Bible!
We are featuring a short 4-day Advent Reading Plan on the YouVersion Bible app that is focused on the Advent themes of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. We hope you will check it out!
And an additional encouragement: reading the Bible by yourself is great. Reading the Bible with one or two other people is even better! Consider doing a reading plan with your family, or finding a friend or two to join in with you and talk about what you are reading together.
