A little over a year ago, we started talking about what to do with the community garden at Redwood. For a number of years that little patch of fenced-off ground on the north side of our property lay in wait for someone to tend to it.
At the same time we were wondering, a curiosity began to stir in the mind of Erin Muller, a member of our church community. She reached out to Samuel in the Fall of 2025 with an email mentioning how she noticed that our community garden was sitting unused. Erin is an avid gardner and saw an opportunity to grow some vegetables for our Redwood Food Bank.
And isn’t this so often the way that the Lord works in community? Right as a question arises, the Lord shows He has already been working the ground and making a way.
The following Spring, Erin recruited Peter, who tilled the ground. Another Erin, Drew, her mother and others then joined in to plant and care for the vegetables.
We share this with you now in celebration of their first harvest - cucumbers and lettuce that were (at the time of this writing) just handed at our Food Bank!
Jesus’ words about the need for workers amidst a plentiful harvest are often taken metaphorically… but in this case, they also seem pretty literal! We’re so grateful to Erin and her crew for stepping into this very tangible and beautiful expression of God’s care and provision.
Praise be to God for His faithfulness.
